Saddle Barn

The Saddle Barn at Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana offers guided trail rides (for those at least 7 years of age), pony rides (for the younger ones) and hayrides. 

Open 9 am to 5 pm daily (weather permitting) from mid-March through mid-November. Closed in winter.

Ride Prices

Trail Rides (guided):
35 minute ride - $26 per person
1 hour ride - $36 per person
($1 discount for cash)

Pony Rides (parent-led):
$4.50 per lap ($.50 discount for cash)
$11.00 for 3 laps ($1 discount for cash)

Hayrides:
$5 per person (cash only)
Children 3 and under are free
Hayrides are Fridays and Saturdays from late May to mid-October, and they leave from the Camp Store at 7:30 pm.

Horseback Riding

You are welcome to bring your own horse to explore on your own the roughly 70 miles of bridle trails through the steep, forested hills of Brown County State Park. Download the printable Horse Trails Map or pick one up at the gate house.

Day-use parking spots, as well as Class C (primitive) campsites and Class A (electric) campsites are available at the Horsemen's Campground, which caters to horse riding enthusiasts.

Each horse you bring into the park must have a Horse Tag (see below).

Horse Tags

A Horse Tag ($5 Daily/$20 Annual) entitles one horse access and the use of DNR properties where horse use is allowed. (Vehicle admission is not included. Daily entrance into the park is additional.) A Horse Tag is required for each horse on DNR property. The Annual Horse Tag is good from January 1 until December 31 of the year issued.

Daily horse tags may be purchased in person at the park. Annual Horse Tags may be purchased online. Annual Horse Tags may also be purchased by mail (or by phone with credit card) at:

NOTE: RVs & vehicles towing trailers must use the West Gate Entrance (off S.R. 46, west of Nashville).
The North Gate Covered Bridge is restricted to 9 foot height and 3 ton weight limits.
Horsemen's Campground users should use the entrance off 135 South.
